On June 11, 2009 the SWP hosted a member appreciation event where members were recognized and thanked for their continued support.
Over 70 people showed to be welcomed with a presentation from Executive Director, Carl Lindquist. Lindquist highlighted some of the SWP's accomplishments over the last year including habitat protection on the Salmon Trout River, the Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb program, the Lake Superior ShoreViewer and more.
The SWP also received the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association "Clean Waters Award" for 2009. There to present the award was MOWA representative, Tom Pink.
A special thanks to Donckers Candies and Gifts and Range Bank for sponsoring the event.
The Superior Watershed Partnership is getting creative!
Material Exchange, a Chicago-based artist collaborative uses often discarded objects and materials in projects to create new and useful items.
A five-day residency, in which the artists, Sara Black and John Preus, lead NMU students and local high school students in solving a design problem with old lumber. The Superior Watershed Partnership helped the students to create the piece and also create important fish habitat.
The finished piece will be sited on Teal Lake in Negaunee; and as the lake is frozen is functions as a public sculpture, and when the ice melts it will sink to the bottom of the lake to become fish habitat.

Bobby Almer - Local Artist
The Superior Watershed Partnership was lucky to be one of seven Marquette Area non profit organizations chosen for the "Artist With a Heart" donation. Bobby Almer is an artist and art instructor from Ishpeming. The SWP received the donation of her soft pastel titled "Fifteen Creek."
The seven selections were being displayed at Gallery West in Marquette above Ben Franklin craft store. Today "Fifteen Creek" will be the first in an array of items being collected by the SWP for its future auction. If you have something you would like to donate, please call our office at 228-6095.
